Indicative 5 Star AAAC (based on previous testing, actual outcome depends on entire flooring system). Average reduction (delta △) of 13 dB on Lntw scale when underlay is installed with various flooring options between 8 - 15mm, compared to original Bare Concrete Floor (ECFS). Outcome is slightly improved when 5mm Rubber EQ512 is installed with 2mm Acoustic HD IXPE, with an additional .17dB average reduction.

Why does thicker and more expensive rubber underlay perform worse than foam?

Good question - only in initial testing! Foam is an incredible sound absorber when first installed with lightweight floorboards. However, due to it's softer structure, it flattens very quickly once flooring and furniture is installed. Quite quickly, a 2mm underlay can become 1mm in thickness, and with heavy furniture or foot-traffic, it could even compress to 0.5mm in thickness, making it virtually ineffective. However, rubber is much stronger and a quality rubber (not overly recycled) will bounce back and maintain it's structural integrity over time!

Installation and Application Guide

Quality underlays deserves a quality install. EVERQUIET® underlays are simple to install.

EVERQUIET® 5mm Rubber Wavy EQW512

  1. Flooring
  2. EQW512 Rubber Wavy Underlay
  3. Subfloor (concrete or timber)

EQW512 Rubber Wavy is installed on the subfloor, concrete or timber (masonite, plywood etc). The chosen hard flooring is then installed on EQW512 Rubber Wavy.

Step 1: Prepare Subfloor

Whether it be concrete or timber substrate, you need to prepare the subfloor. A suitable subfloor is one that meets 3 criteria:

  1. Flat - refer to the flooring product’s installation guidelines, but typically not more than 4mm variation over 2m.
  2. Stable - subfloor is fixed and not subject to any movement.
  3. Dry - no moisture or risk of moisture.

Additionally, the subfloor must be smooth, absorbent and clean. In the case of glued underlay, there should not be any wax, grease, polish, or contaminants.

Step 2: Install Underlay

For floating installations,  the adjoining edges of the underlay rolls or sheets must be taped together, we recommend water-proof tape.

For glue down installations, lay your underlay down first to confirm it has been cut to correct size. Fold back the underlay to expose the subfloor and apply the adhesive. Lay the underlay back onto the adhesive and roll with a weighted roller, of minimum weight 45kg. Check for excess glue that comes out and wipe up immediately.

Place the sheets down with the dimple side facing down, and the flat side facing upwards. The joins must be butted tightly to each other without gaps.

Step 3: Install Flooring

Install your flooring in accordance with the flooring and adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations. Please ensure your floor covering is fit for use with EVERQUIET® EQW512. Please note most hybrid floors or floors 8mm or thinner are not suitable with EQW512

You may glue down (direct stick) or float flooring on top of the EQW512 underlay. If you intend to glue down, you must have glued down the underlay in the previous stage. Lighter floors such as timber engineered must be glued down to EQW512 and EQW512 must be glued to the subfloor.

EVERQUIET® 3mm Rubber EQW512

  1. Flooring
  2. EQW512 Rubber Wavy Underlay
  3. Subfloor (concrete or timber)

EQW512 Rubber is installed on the subfloor, concrete or timber (masonite, plywood etc). The chosen hard flooring is then installed on EVERQUIET® EQW512.

Step 1: Prepare Subfloor

  1. Flat - refer to the flooring product’s installation guidelines, but typically not more than 4mm variation over 2m.
  2. Stable - subfloor is fixed and not subject to any movement.
  3. Dry - no moisture or risk of moisture.

Additionally, the subfloor must be smooth, absorbent and clean. In the case of glued underlay, there should not be any wax, grease, polish, or contaminants.

Slide 2: Prepare Adhesive

For glue down installations, lay your underlay down first to confirm it has been cut to correct size. Fold back the underlay to expose the subfloor and apply the adhesive.

Use the correct trowel to ensure accurate volume and coverage. Take care not to spread more adhesive than can be laid into before the adhesive starts to skin over (climate conditions will vary this time frame).

Step 3:  Install Underlay

Lay the underlay back onto the adhesive and roll with a weighted roller, of minimum weight 45kg immediately, before the adhesive cures. Do not drop the underlay into the adhesive as air may be trapped under it. Ensure all seams are butt seamed neatly and accurately to ensure there are no gaps. Trims ends of the rolls.

Roll the entire floor in both directions. Check for excess glue that comes out and wipe up immediately.

Step 4: Apply Adhesive

Install flooring in accordance with both the floor covering and adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations.

In many cases, you will either trowel down glue e.g. parquetry or utilize strip glue (with a glue gun) e.g. click-lock or tongue and groove flooring.

(Note: Glue-only is likely insufficient for raw hardwood or longer pre-finished boards.)

Step 5: Install Flooring

Install flooring in accordance with both the floor covering and adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations.

In many cases, you will either trowel down glue e.g. parquetry or utilize strip glue (with a glue gun) e.g. click-lock or tongue and groove flooring.

(Note: Glue-only is likely insufficient for raw hardwood or longer pre-finished boards.)
